Effective Communication…

Hi Class! After Tuesday’s building block activity, hopefully you have a better idea how to be an effective communicator when speaking with your classmates. Today’s communication challenge is to explain, in writing, how to accomplish one of the following:

  • tie shoe laces
  • read the time on an analogue clock
  • put toothpaste on a toothbrush & brush teeth
  • clean dishes by hand
  • sharpen a pencil manually

Consider what style of writing will yield the desired result. Is a paragraph ideal or perhaps a bulleted list – you decide.

Think, write, rethink, revise, proofread, post. Your ‘How To…’ is due November 26 (Monday).

How to wash dishes by hand:
After a long, relaxing dinner, you find yourself with the duty of ‘the dishwasher’. Either you collect all the dishes, or your family helps out and takes the dishes to you. Personally I am lucky considering there are only three people in my house hold, so I do the nice deed for the day and collect all of the dishes myself. Once everything is piled up inside,or on the side of the sink, you would grab something to wash them with.(cloth, sponge, scrub brush, ect.) Then you would add dish soap to your cleaner, after a small amout is poured on, you would get down to washing the dishes. Keep a small amout of warm water running while you take your cleaner and slowly scrub it in circular motions in and around your dish. After a few moments of scrubbing, rinse it under the warn water you left running. If there is anything left on the dish, repeat this action again. Once you have washed all the dishes, you would dry them off, unless someone else hasn’t done it already, then put them away. That’s how you wash your dishes.

    • Mr. Bell says:

Well done! I assume the meal was delicious so nothing had to be scraped off the plate?

Quick Fix: household is a compound word (not two separate words)

      • Shaleyea says:

Well I sure hope it was…I have quite the expierience with washing dishes, even though we have I dish washer. I clean whatever doesn’t fit inside (pots/pan/strainers/ect.)

        • Mr. Bell says:

It’s great to hear you have this ‘hands on’ experience Shaleyea (pardon the pun). Perhaps a new type of dishwasher needs inventing…

    How To…
Many people now how to brush there teeth but most people don’t now how to brush to take away the germs. First you wet your tooth brush turn the water off to not waste. Then you put on a finger tip of tooth paste and start to brush. Start on the bottom corner on the right and then move your way to the middle then to the left side this will insure for a clean polish. Then start at the left top corner and do the same as the bottom. Make sure to wash your tooth brush well so no germs will be left behind. Then rinse your mouth with warm water. This will insure for great squeaky clean teeth. Try this method it will work.

    • Mr. Bell says:

Which part of the toothbrush do I put the toothpaste on?

      • sydney says:

You put the tooth paste on the bristles of the brush.

        • Mr. Bell says:

          Got it!

Quick Fix: ensure (to make something happen) vs insure (to protect against a loss or damage) – If you buy car insurance, this will ensure you car is repaired after an accident.

          • sydney says:

part-ten me what do u mean

            • Mr. Bell says:

The difference between insure and ensure is tricky. When thinking of insure, perhaps thinking of insurance will help. One buys insurance in case something valuable is lost, damaged, or stolen (car insurance, house insurance…).

Ensure means to make certain that something will happen – paying your airfare on time will ensure you a spot on the plane.

On the side of the sharpener there should be a handle on the side that turns, grab that and firmly hold the pencil and turn the handle. While turning the handle stop every couple seconds to see if your pencil is sharpened. after like 10 seconds your pencil should be sharpened.
