  1. Trey says:

I really enjoyed it other than classmates goofing off and sitting with each other all day!

  2. Trey says:

I think switching tables is good to communicate with other people and making new friends and learning more about different people.

    • Mr. Bell says:

Great observation Trey – the best learning comes from doing! You are not expected to be best friends with all of your classmates, however it is important to develop social skills to work with all people.

  3. Brendan says:

My reaction was at first I thought Mr.Bell was going to be mean and strict but after our first day I really enjoy this class so far.All the other kids are nice and I’v already made a few new friends! A few things I think I’m really going to enjoy about this class is all the P.E, Terry Fox project(s) and the genius thing I cant remember what it was called and the student meetings! Thanks Mr.Bell for making it a wonderful first day!

    • Mr. Bell says:

Thanks for your thoughts Brendan. It’s wonderful to hear you are making friends. There really is no need to be strict if expectations are clear. We want a welcoming environment where learning is fun and collaborative. Each individual is a piece of this puzzle. We need clear communication to ensure our needs are met.

      Quick Fix:
      – I have = I’ve
      – A few things (plural) I think I’m really going to enjoy about this class are
      – can not = can’t
      – when typing, there is always a space after punctuation (Mr. Bell; meetings! Thanks)

  4. Gurisha says:

I think today was pretty good, because i wanted all the grade 7’s to be in one class together and it happened! Im also looking forward toward this school year because its my last year in elementary school! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Mr. Bell says:

It is nice to have one group of Grade 7 students – now we must determine what are we going to do to have an amazing year. It’s great to hear you are looking forward to your last year in elementary school. This is the time to set yourself up for a smooth and successful transition to high school by being involved and organized! What things do you see yourself being involved with this year at MSES?

  5. Shaleyea says:

I couldn’t help but stop by the blog since I noticed the web adress still in my bookmarks. Well anyhow, my first days at highschool were spectacular! Everyone was so friendly, and the teachers are hilarious! I find everyday I have a story to tell when I arrive home, and I’m making memories all the time. The only downside is that it’s been tough getting back into the schedule of waking up early, but I have a feeling it won’t be long until I’m back on track!

    • Mr. Bell says:

That’s awesome Shaleyea – it’s great to hear from you! Your high school experience will be only as good/great as you want it to be. The teachers are there to help along the way. Be enthusiastic and involved. You’ll be amazed how quickly five years goes by.

Everyone has the same issues getting back into routine, but we will all find our groove soon.

      Have a great year!
      Mr. Bell

  6. Alexa says:

I had a great first day in your class! I have always dreamed to be a grade seven. I have always looked up to grade sevens since I was little!!!!!

    • Mr. Bell says:

Your observation about looking up to the grade seven students is astute! How will the younger Cool Cats see you around the school this year?

      • Alexa says:

I am hoping they will see me as a great role model and will enjoy seeing me around the school.

        • Mr. Bell says:

I always enjoy when students from other classes and previous years say hello to me. Keep being involved and welcoming and I am certain they will enjoy seeing you!

  7. Asia says:

I think that the first day was pretty good, everybody was nice and I liked the idea of sitting at different tables throughout the day and having P.E alot. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the year.

    • Mr. Bell says:

Thanks for sharing Asia! Though it may be somewhat worrisome at times, working with a variety of people helps you develop confidence, social skills, and you will appreciate the strengths and differences of others. What is something you would like to see happen at school this year?

  8. Gabby says:

It was a fantastic day! I’m ecstatic of the class. I’m happy all of the grade 7’s were put in one class along with a few grade 6’s. We are going to have a marvelous year. I had a lot of fun with you last year and this year will be better.

  9. sydney says:

Our class is so quite way quieter than last year. I hope our class continues like this. We have a good class though.

    • Mr. Bell says:

Is it quiet because everyone is tired being back at school?

      Quick Fix:
      – There is a difference between quite and quiet. Can you explain this difference?

  10. Sarah says:

I really liked the idea of sitting at different tables too! I enjoyed your class and the fun things do with us!

  11. Beau says:

I thought the first day of school was awesome. I’m not used to having tables instead
of desks. I like moving to different tables ,we get to meet new kids. Socializing
with new kids means you can find out more about them and there feelings.
It’s going to be a great year!

    • Mr. Bell says:

It’s wonderful to hear your enthusiasm Beau! Hopefully all of the students will switch on their own throughout the day. You will have 200 classmates in Grade 8, so the confidence in your social skills you develop now be useful.

      Quick Fix:
      – When typing, the comma is attached to the word then there is a space after the comma before the next word. In your sentence about moving to different tables the comma should be attached to tables (not we).

  12. Kiira says:

Being in grade 7 is absolutely fantastic. I’ve always looked up to the grade 7s and now I am one. Everybody is so nice in the classroom and I think that its going to be such an amazing year! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Mr. Bell says:

We do have a nice group don’t we? Make sure you do you part in making our year amazing.

      Quick Fix;
      – What is the difference between it’s and its?

  13. Sam says:

My first day was really nerve racking! Really hard to lose your friends and make new ones.

    • Mr. Bell says:

Take some time to re-frame your thoughts. Are your friends lost, or are you a greater distance from them? They are still your friends, and you can still keep in touch with them. One thing to realize is that you will make and miss many friends as you grow older. You’ll have several hundred friends in waiting when you reach high school, then these people will choose various paths after graduating.

  14. Matthew says:

I really like the new classes! It’s great to see all my friends in my class again! It seems like its going to be a really great and awesome year!!:)

    • Mr. Bell says:

I hope your enthusiasm is contagious! Thanks for sharing Matthew.

      Quick Fix:
      – What is the difference between it’s and its? Would you change either of them in your post?

  15. Garet says:

I accidently put them under a different thing my hopes are that I will pass grade 6, my fears are of not passing then I would be behind all my friends.

    • Mr. Bell says:

No worries Garet. You will pass Grade 6 by taking safe risks as way to learn and improve your skills. Making mistakes is part of learning, and everyone makes them!

  16. Mackenzie says:

I really liked the first day because all the grade 7 students were together. It was a good day because we got to choose where we sat and we got to change seats during the day.

    • Mr. Bell says:

Wonderful! Be sure to change on your own so that you build relationships with all of your peers. As you move into high school you will have 200 kids in the same grade!

  17. tj says:

It was a great first day i like how you make us switch tables to make new friends and to know a little more about people

    • Mr. Bell says:

That’s great to hear TJ. Hopefully you will get into the habit of sitting with new people on your own (rather than being asked to). The ability to work with a variety of people is an important skill as you move to high school.

      Quick Fix:
      – I is always written/typed as a capital letter.

  18. Mariah says:

I was really excited to be in grade 7. Finally. I like how we switch tables quite frequently. At first i wasn’t that excited about having gym that much but it will help me get in shape and it will prepare me for next year also. I feel like this is going to be a good year!

    • Mr. Bell says:

Thanks for sharing Mariah, it’s great to hear your positive outlook for this year. The last year of elementary school is special, though it is only part of the way to graduation and more. The neat thing as you get older is that you have more choice to pursue your interests in high school and beyond. Hopefully by pursuing things that you are passionate about, you will never stop learning!

  19. Seth says:

The first day of school was awesome and it’s good to be seeing my friends again and I’m happy I got you as a teacher. It’s kind of weird with all the grade sevens and only five grade sixes in a class. The only thing I didn’t like about the first day is that we had to work on the poem all day to present it in the gym the next day, but besides that the day was good. I’m really looking forward to this year with you and my classmates.

    • Mr. Bell says:

The first few days of the year were a bit different than previous years. That said, each group’s performance was spectacular! Too often the work we do never sees an audience or a limited one at best. It is important to show what we know not only for the enjoyment of others, but to reinforce learning too! Besides, it’s fun to perform for an audience then have them cheer and applaud!

  20. kobe says:

I think the first day was awesome because we got to do a lot of. Fun things and later in the year I hope I can get better at the goals that I set for the year. And I hope it gets even better and funnier jurying the year also. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Mr. Bell says:

Remember that we all have a part in the tone of the year. Trying, taking safe risks, and interacting with people will make the year more enjoyable!

      Quick Fix:
      – Proofread your work. There is a difference between jurying and during.

  21. aliya says:

    where are all my friends?

    • Mr. Bell says:

Have they disappeared? Perhaps they are in a different class, nonetheless they are still your friends. See this as an opportunity to add new friends too!

      Quick Fix:
      – Sentences begin with an upper case (capital) letter.
