Hi Class! It’s time to write your reader’s theatre script! Click here and copy a template to your Google Drive. Your goal is to write at least 100 words per day.

Remember that you are writing for an audience of ‘tweens’ (upper elementary school / junior secondary aged kids). If you are unsure if your content is appropriate, ask!

Hi Class! As we begin exploring ancient civilizations (up to 500 CE), your action is to investigate and summarize information that you find amazing, intriguing, surprising and shocking. Copy this template to document your findings. Be ready to share your discoveries!

Hi Class! Find at least five amazing links to help students improve their understanding of fractions. Copy and past the URL (address) in your reply. For each site, provide at least a one or two sentence explanation for your recommendation – be specific! For example:

Here’s a great link to work on finding equivalent fractions. It’s fantastic for several reasons: not only can you choose the level of difficulty, and speed of the game, but also if it is a race!

If the link doesn’t work, copy and paste this address: https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/fractions/equivalent_fractions_shoot.swf

Hi Class! Check out the information on the graphic below and share your reaction by replying to this post. Be sure to support your stance with reasons and connections. Simply stating, “I agree.” or, “I disagree.” is insufficient.

Hi Class! Hopefully you remember your assigned spots…Here are your options:

  1. Begin researching and drafting your recount of an environmental issue. Once you have determined your topic, click this link to let Mr. Bell know.
        1. Choose a topic that interests you!
        2. Like the example we read yesterday, a five paragraph recount is expected.
  2. Begin publishing your descriptive paragraph using Google Slides (text first, images second).
  3. If 1 and 2 are well underway, feel free to do some research and work on your exercise circuit project or the finishing touches on your homophone story.

Voter Turnout Debate

Hi Class! Our first blog writing activity of the year is on the topic of voter turnout. The goals in the activity are to write a persuasive paragraph containing a BIG IDEA, several supporting details, and a strong conclusion. Here are your choices:

  • The voting age will be lowered to 14 to increase the amount of potential voters.
  • Eligible voters who do not cast a ballot will be fined or imprisoned.
  • All voting will be done online.

Your initial steps are to choose one of the three topics, then post a strong opening sentence containing your BIG IDEA. This sentence clearly states a position on the issue and gives the main reason in support of your stance.

Post your sentence and wait for feedback. Once Mr. Bell has replied, begin crafting your entire paragraph. In all, there will be at least five great sentences in this activity (big idea, supporting detail 1, 2, 3, and a conclusion).

Your opening sentence is due before you leave the computer lab today. Once you have posted your sentence and are waiting, use the remaining time to complete the ‘Examine the Options‘ activity.
