First Post of the School Year

Hi Class!

Imagine you could travel to one place in the world and take one person with you. Where would you go and who would you take? Support your choices with several reasons. Your response should be at least 4 sentences in length.

Suggestions:

  • be sure to answer ‘WHY’ in your post (why did you choose that particular place, and that person)
  • skilled writers do not repeat the same sentence pattern (avoid starting all of your sentences with ‘I would…”
  • interesting words make for interesting reading

Blogging Expectations

Hi Class! It is time to outline the expectations for our blog when posting and replying. This is an academic activity, therefore use your best writing skills. Avoid slang, jargon and abbreviations used when chatting or sending text messages to your friends. I will suggest corrections to students when improvements are needed. Often I will reply to a post with ‘Quick Fix:” to explain the error and the remedy.

Aside from the learning opportunities related to writing, grammar and spelling, blogging is a tremendous communication tool. Students will not simply respond to questions from the teacher, students will be expected to reply to the posts from classmates.

List at least three school related goals you have for next year. What do you want to accomplish, to improve, to try, to change…Be thoughtful – setting goals is an important life skill. The Great PE Debate (Part 2)

Hi Class! Here’s your chance to convince your classmates and your teacher regarding today’s PE activity. Soccer is not an option because we played it Tuesday. We will be outside (rain or shine) as the gym is being prepared for the talent show. Post your wishes quickly to allow time for others to comment. Be sure to make convincing arguments.

Senses – Most & Least Important

Hi Class! Read the entire post today before getting to the writing (especially the last sentence 😉 ). Which of the five senses is most important and least important to you? Support your answer with convincing arguments and reasons. Do a high calibre job on the blog and spare yourself the additional written activity for the people choosing to submit low quality work.
